FITNESS OVER 40 - 5 Steps To Follow when JUST BEGINNING
It is never too late to start living a healthier lifestyle. Incorporating physical activity into your everyday routine has countless benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases, improving mental health, and increasing lifespan. However, beginning a new fitness journey can be daunting, especially if you are starting later in life. Follow these five steps to set yourself up for success.
1. Talk to your doctor before beginning any new physical activity. This is especially important if you have any underlying medical conditions or if you haven’t been active in a while. Your doctor can help you create a safe and effective workout plan that takes your unique circumstances into account.
2. Start slow and build up gradually. It’s important to ease into things so that you don’t end up injured or burned out. Begin with small goals that you know you can achieve, such as walking for 20 minutes a day or doing 10 pushups per day. Once you’ve accomplished those goals, you can start to challenge yourself more.
3. Find an activity that you enjoy. Exercise doesn’t have to be all about hard work and pain—it can actually be enjoyable! If you find an activity that brings you joy, such as hiking, playing tennis, or swimming, you’ll be more likely to stick with it in the long run. And the more fun you have, the more likely you are to see results.
4. Make sure to warm up and cool down properly. Warming up helps prepare your body for exercise by raising your heart rate and loosening your muscles. Cooling down helps your body recover from exercise by gradually lowering your heart rate and stretching your muscles. skipping these important steps can lead to injuries or soreness later on.
5. Be consistent. The most important thing is to stick with it! Try to make physical activity a regular part of your life rather than something that you only do occasionally. Forming healthy habits takes time and effort, but it’s worth it in the end.
Beginning a new fitness journey can be tough, but it’s definitely doable—no matter how old you are!
